Rachel Broudy has taught in DCPS for seven years and has already risen to the level of Expert teacher. Ms. Broudy has become a large part of the McKinley community by leading the Poetry Club which, according to her principal, she made “one of the most popular and exciting venues for creative expression.” Students in the club not only grow creatively through poetic expression, but they, according to Principal Jones, “compete and win locally.” Additionally, Ms. Broudy raised the AP Literature passing rate from 7% in 2013 to 34.7% in 2015. Her students engage in rigorous college-level texts and demonstrate higher-order analyses by directing their own classroom discussions, completing year-long portfolios that highlight complexity of thought and reflective writing, and by participating in group debates. Ms. Broudy sets her students up for college readiness and success by establishing and maintaining high expectations for all of her students.
