Subject: 3rd-5th grade Special Education
School: Seaton Elementary School
Sarah McLaughlin has a special story for her path into the classroom. She began as the school gardener at Seaton and after a few years working with the teachers and students to bring the horticulture world into the classroom, Ms. McLaughlin joined DC Teaching Fellows and became a full-time instructor at Seaton as a self-contained Special Education teacher. Ms. McLaughlin engages with some of the highest need students in the school – providing patience, support, and encouragement to help all of her students reach success. In the words of her Master Educator, “as a first-year teacher, she was absolutely stellar, far beyond her peers and far beyond her years. She is an excellent role model for how a first-year teacher can make a significant difference right from the very beginning.”
