Sierra Queen

Sierra QueenSierra Queen, a senior at Columbia Heights Education Campus (CHEC), cried when she found out she had been accepted to Cornell University. She visited the school on a college tour with CHEC during her junior year, and was struck by how beautiful the campus was and how friendly the students were. “I remember thinking, ‘This could be my new home.’” She chose Cornell because she “wanted a college that was going to help define [herself]” in ways she couldn’t do alone. At CHEC, Sierra points to her experience in the Philosophy Club as a turning point for her because she started having conversations with her peers about life and existence. “It was amazing. You start to question everything. I’m only in 12th grade and I’m already having a crisis!” She’ll study hospitality at Cornell (or as they’re known on campus, “hotelies”), and she’s looking forward to applying what she’s discovered about herself in Philosophy Club. “You think you have to do all these things, and I then realized that all of that is in your mind. I tell myself, ‘You are in this now, Sierra, you have infinite possibilities.’ I hope you’re ready for me infinity, because I’m coming!” #DCPSGoesToCollege
