Milagros de Souza

Milagros de SouzaDuke University has always been Milagros de Souza’s top choice: “I love the environment at Duke. The academic rigor is amazing. Everything excites me.” She plans to major in psychology and minor in education to hopefully open a counseling center someday, and is excited to apply the skills she’s learned in Eastern High School’s IB program to her college courses. At Eastern, Milagros was the captain of the Track Team and a member of the Dream Team, a group that produces events at her school and even held a blanket drive for the homeless last winter. Outside of school, she is on the Aspen Youth Commission, working on social, emotional, and academic development for Grades K-12 all over the country, and she’s on the Smithsonian Secretary Youth Advisory Council, where she gets to help make museums more teen-friendly. She’s also worked with School Girls Unite to help raise money for school girls in Mali. Milagros says that her future keeps her motivated, but how does she get it all done? “Time management and not sleeping,” she says with a laugh. #DCPSGoesToCollege
