Phelps High School senior Serena Campbell is heading to Fayetteville State University next year after weighing several options: “I’ve been in DC all my life, so I wanted to get out of the area. It was also the best option for me financially.” Though she’s been studying computer science at Phelps, she’s decided she wants to pursue a degree in social work in college “to help the less fortunate and give back.” She thinks her high school has prepared her for this next step through her multiple AP classes, and her involvement in Student Government as both Secretary and Treasurer. Serena also cheered and played volleyball, and is a member of the Her Story program, a group that was recently featured in The Washington Post for its work to boost self-confidence in young women at Phelps. While she’s looking forward to getting out on her own, she’ll miss the smaller setting from her high school education: “I want people to know that DCPS is like a unit. Pretty much everyone sticks together.” #DCPSGoesToCollege
