Gerard Gaffney has figured out how to make a career out of his love for sports and his desire to go into business. “Lots of kids dream about playing basketball, football, and a lot of them could go pro as adults. If they do, I could be their sports agent! Plus I’d get to be around the games I love.” After graduating from Luke C. Moore High School, Gerard will study business and sports management next year at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and he’s looking forward to experiencing a “whole new world”: “All I know is DC. HBCUs bring in people from different areas, and a different variety of people.” He’s ready to meet new people after opening up at Luke C. Moore with the help of the school’s dean. “When I first got here, I was pretty to myself. But the people here are always there to uplift you. They have multiple resources, and everyone is understanding. You’re never alone here.” He also wants people to know that his school defies assumptions. “It’s a small school, so everyone knows everyone. You get a lot of help if you need it. It’s a good community.” #DCPSGoesToCollege
