Moten Elementary School

Akela Stanfield-Dogbe is the new principal at Moten Elementary School for School Year 2017-2018. Prior to assuming the principal role at Moten, she served as the assistant principal at Nalle Elementary School for three years. During her time at Nalle, the school saw a 34 percent reduction in K-5 students scoring far below proficient on Text Reading Comprehension (TRC) and saw an equal increase in student proficiency. She has held several other positions in the field of education, including design specialist for DCPS’ Teaching and Learning Framework (TLF), career-and-technical-education curriculum manager with Chicago Public Schools, learning specialist with Near North Montessori School in Chicago, curriculum design consultant, and English teacher. Her approach to families and communities can be described as a partnership, which she believes needs to be collaborative and consistent. Stanfield-Dogbe received her bachelor’s degree in English from Spelman College and her master’s degree in cultural educational policy studies from Loyola University Chicago.
