Clinard Smith

Clinard SmithClinard Smith, a graduating senior at Eastern High School, has always had a passion for building and creating new things. At Bucknell University, Clinard is looking forward to pursuing this interest by majoring in engineering, a field where he says there is “never a dull moment.” He plans on applying the skills from his engineering degree to solve problems and make a difference in the world. After graduation, Clinard plans on moving to Japan, an ambition that began after an Eastern teacher encouraged him to apply for a study abroad trip to Japan through the Tomodachi Initiative. During the program, he explored a technology incubator in Tokyo and participated in a cultural exchange. “It’s nice to see people who are different from you to gain some sort of connection to them.” Looking back on his time at Eastern, his fondest memories have been performing with the band on the mellophone, a brass instrument, at schoolwide events including the homecoming parade. He wants people to know that great things are happening at neighborhood high schools, including Eastern. “Eastern has the potential to be the best high school in the district due to the opportunities that it has, resources that it has, the loving faculty and staff, and the great minds that walk into Eastern.” #DCPSGoesToCollege
