Billy Casey

Billy Casey Billy Casey, a senior at Phelps Architecture, Construction, and Engineering High School, is looking forward to starting his career as a nurse by earning an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from Montgomery College. Billy says starting with an ADN gives him the flexibility to start working as soon as he earns his degree. He then plans on working toward his Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. He says this plan will allow him to gain “learning experience and work experience at the same time,” similar to the Electricity pathway at Phelps, which has provided Billy with both academic and hands on experience in the trade. Billy has been drawn to the field of nursing since middle school when he visited a hospital and was intrigued by the diagrams and posters that he saw. “I like helping people and being in a hospital setting,” Billy says. During his time at Phelps, Billy has enjoyed being on the debate team and participating in the Young Men of Phelps program, which supports male scholars on their path to graduation through scholarships, mentoring, and college support. Billy says that he wants to encourage younger students to get involved at their high schools. “Have an open mind whenever an opportunity is presented to you because it might take you into meeting a lot of different people who could help you with what you want to do after high school, whether it is college or an apprenticeship.” #DCPSGoesToCollege
