Nadine Smith began her career in education 18 years ago as a social studies teacher for Public School 9 with the New York City Board of Education. From there, she moved to Florida and taught English Language Arts and Reading for Miami-Dade Public Schools for 9 years before becoming a lead instructional coach in 2010. She was promoted to assistant principal of Miami Edison Senior High School in 2012. Ms. Smith joined DC Public Schools in 2014 as the assistant principal of literacy at Luke C. Moore High School where she served for 2 years prior to her fellowship as a Mary Jane Patterson resident principal for Ballou High School. Over the past year, she has served as an interim principal for Charles Hart Middle School, Jefferson Middle School Academy, and Phelps Ace High School. Ms. Smith holds a bachelor’s degree from City University of New York-Queens College and master’s degrees from St. Thomas University School of Law and Nova Southeastern University. Her favorite part of the school day is greeting students at the door in the morning and hearing their chatter as they pour into the building.
