Ayohnna Preacher

Ayohnna PreacherAyohnna Preacher may not start at Lincoln University until this fall, but she is already preparing herself to excel. “I’m happy to go shine my light,” Ayohnna says. During her time at Anacostia High School, Ayohnna has worked to have an impact and says that she has been involved in every activity the school has to offer from band to stage production manager to student government. In addition to these responsibilities, Ayohnna has excelled academically in honors and AP classes and as a member of the honor roll. During her time at Anacostia, her favorite teacher was Mr. Edmonds, an Anacostia graduate, who she says “really believes in us” and pushes all students to succeed. “He knows what it means to be in our shoes,” she says. When she was making her college decision, it was the personal connections at Lincoln University – through conversations with the admissions office, her mentor, and a professor in her chosen major, human services and sociology – that convinced her the school was the right fit. “It’s small and it reminds me of home,” she says. She plans on becoming a social worker, inspired by her aunt, who was one of the first people she knew to go to college. Regardless of the challenges that she will face in college, Ayohnna is prepared. “I’m going to succeed and I’m ready to do that.”
