Lafayette Elementary School
Katie Prall has served DCPS as a classroom teacher and as a school leader, in addition to working in the Office of Early Childhood Education and the Office of Family and Community Engagement. In 2020, she became Hyde-Addison Elementary School’s Assistant Principal and led the instructional and operations teams in implementing key initiatives that resulted in high levels of family engagement, an inclusive and joyful school culture, and assessment results that reflect the rigorous curricula being taught. Hyde-Addison students continued making a notable academic gains across all subject areas on benchmark assessments, even throughout the pandemic, as a result of the team’s approach. In 2022, the DC EdFund recognized this work by awarding Hyde-Addison with the Building Bridges for Students and Families award.
Prior to her work with DCPS, Katie taught at the Vanderbilt demonstration school in Abu Dhabi where her love for traveling expanded exponentially. Through meeting with and learning from talented individuals from a range of countries and cultures, Katie developed a passion for working in diverse communities that reflect our world. She uses that passion to create sustainable change so that our schools and systems produce equitable and excellent outcomes for our students. She holds degrees in Early Childhood Education and Child Studies from Vanderbilt University and in Education Policy and Leadership from Stanford University.
