GeoPlunge Challenge Tournament

About GeoPlunge

DCPS in partnership with the Washington Lawyers’ Committee presents an Annual GeoPlunge Challenge Tournament as part of their larger school partnership programs. The GeoPlunge Challenge Tournament is based on the game that teaches students about the geography of the United States. This event provides a team-oriented, exciting, educational competition that has a tremendous track record of success. This all day annual event is typically held during National Geography Week and is open to students from grades 3 through 8, who compete in teams of three. This year the tournament will be held at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery.

Why Participate?

This exciting educational event is a fun way to get students excited about geography. It is certain to bolster students’ knowledge of and excitement for geography and helps them master a key Social Studies Learning Standard – identifying all 50 states and their capitals. The game and this tournament provide an excellent way to teach students in an engaging manner. Both teachers and students who have participated in this event have raved about what an exciting, rewarding, and fun learning tool this tournament is.
