Ten Things to Do This Summer

Kids can eat free every weekday this summer!

  • Just because school ends doesn’t mean student meals do—FREE breakfast and lunch is available to all children and youth 18 and younger across the city all summer long , starting June 23!
  • Free meals can be found at parks and recreation centers, churches, community based organizations , and SCHOOLS!
  • 48 schools all over the city will serve breakfast and lunch Monday-Friday to any student up to age 18.
  • Children and youth can just show up at any school or site to receive a meal- they don’t need to be in a summer school program and they don’t need to show ID or registration for a free meal
  • All of our schools serve HOT meals!
  • Meals are nutritious and delicious
  • A sample meal: Chicken drumstick, whole wheat rolls, sweet potatoes with cinnamon, cole slaw, and fresh local nectarine
  • NEW This Year!  For active youth who are enjoying the outdoors, we’ll offer meals from a cart outdoors at HD Woodson High School!

Summer camps for all ages and interests including free options

All of information below is reposted from OneCityYouth.dc.gov

Camps offer a wide-range of opportunities for children and youth. Some camps provide intensive learning opportunities in a particular area, such as a musical instrument, while others expose children and youth to new things.

One of the most popular summer camp resources in the District is the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR). DPR offers camps for all ages and interests and more information is available on the Summer Camp Registration site.

Listed below are links to other day and overnight camps in the region. The list is not comprehensive and most if not all camps enroll young people on a first come, first served basis.
