Families that do not reside in the District of Columbia must submit a My School DC lottery application for their child to gain admission to a District of Columbia Public School. Enrollment of non-District resident students into DCPS, though rare, is permitted only when there is a seat available because there are no qualified District residents seeking admittance. Additionally, non-District resident families are required by law to pay tuition in order to attend a public school in the District of Columbia.
