Bancroft Early Childhood Education (ECE) Annex

Project Overview

DCPS plans to convert the former Department of Recreation (DPR) Headquarters building, located at 3149 16th Street NW, into a new Bancroft Early Childhood Education (ECE) Annex. Currently, we anticipate construction to renovate this building will be completed during summer 2028, in time for School Year 2028-29.

Bancroft ECE students will be housed temporarily at the Sharpe Health School, a DCPS swing space located in Ward 6. In order to proactively address overutilization at Bancroft Elementary School, DCPS will host Bancroft's Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 students at Sharpe during School Years 2025-26, 2026-27, and 2027-28. DCPS will provide swing space transportation between the Bancroft ES and Sharpe buildings for pick-up and drop-off. Before and after-care will continue to be hosted at the Bancroft ES building.
