Project Overview 

     Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School is a DC Public School located in Ward 8. The modernization project includes the design and construction of an approximately 70,000 square foot facility for King. The project is a combination of renovation of the existing building and new construction to increase the school's footprint. King Elementary School has received multiple upgrades to the building over the past several years. In 2010, Phase 1 Modernization was completed. In 2015, the lobby and exterior entrance were upgraded, as well as the installation of a new playground. Lastly, in 2018, a new elevator was installed. 

     Adjacent to MLK ES is the Congress Heights Recreation Center, which is currently in design for full modernization. The project is expected to be under construction during the King Elementary School Modernization. The Design-Builder will work with the General Contractor and DGS team at the recreation center to determine site logistics and safety at both locations.
