Project Overview
LaSalle-Backus Elementary is a DC Public School located in Ward 4. The existing LaSalle-Backus building was built in 1957. The project will be an approximately 78,000 square foot school facility, comprising a combination of renovation and new construction.
The project is anticipated to result in the demolition of the middle wing, which will likely be replaced by a new construction, 4 story building to accommodate additional classroom space. The project will provide all new playgrounds, parking and loading facilities. Additionally, the project will provide new Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) systems and replace the entire existing roof structure. The modernized LaSalle-Backus Elementary building will be re-opening its doors to students, staff and the LaSalle-Backus community in Summer 2029, in time for School Year (SY) 2029-30.
