Project Overview
Ketcham Elementary is a DC Public School located in Ward 8 in the Anacostia Historic District. The original historic Ketcham Elementary School was built in 1908, with additions in the 1940s and the late 1960s. The modernization project will be an approximately 81,000 square foot school facility, and will comprise a combination of renovation of the original historic structure and the demolition and re-construction of a portion of the existing building, anticipated to be the 1970s classroom wing.
The project will provide all new playgrounds, parking and loading facilities. Additionally, the project will participate in the Percent for Art program, a District-wide initiative that commissions works from international, national and local artists for showcase in District facilities. The fully modernized Ketcham Elementary School building will be re-opening its doors to students, staff and the Ketcham community in Summer 2028, in time for School Year (SY) 2028-29.
