Early Childhood Academic Programs

We are pleased to announce that through a rigorous RFP process the United Planning Organization (UPO) has been selected to operate the new Ketcham ES Early Childhood Development Center, opening this fall. We look forward to this partnership, which allows us to offer a high-quality infant/toddler education experience to the children and families of the Ketcham ES community.

Interested in enrolling? The United Planning Organization will host on-site enrollment sessions in the coming weeks. Please contact Dante Daniel ([email protected]) for more information.

Below are a series of brief descriptions of the main curricula being implemented in DCPS Early Childhood classrooms. If you are interested in learning more about how these curricula are being implemented in a specific school, visit an open house or contact the school directly for more information.

Creative Curriculum

The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool is a comprehensive, research-based curriculum designed to help educators at all levels of experience plan and implement a developmentally appropriate, content-rich program for children with diverse backgrounds and skill levels.

Tools of the Mind

Tools of the Mind is a research-based early childhood comprehensive innovative curriculum that helps young children to develop the cognitive, social-emotional, self-regulatory, and foundational academic skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.

The goal of Montessori education is to foster a child’s natural inclination to learn. Montessori teachers guide rather than instruct, linking each student with activities that meet his interests, needs, and developmental level. The classroom is designed to allow movement and collaboration, as it also promotes concentration and a sense of order.
